Metaverse

Virtual reality for TV & Radio

Our vision for tomorrow’s video consumption

The ORS Group, as a neutral program, content and data aggregator is committed to the development of new technologies for content distribution via TV, radio and the Internet. The emergence of the metaverse, in particular, will fundamentally change the way we interact and consume media content.

The term metaverse describes a virtual space in which people can interact with each other as avatars using virtual reality technologies. The metaverse thus creates a convergence between physical reality and this virtual space. An avatar is a digital image of a person and is designed to perfectly imitate human emotions, actions and subtleties. Using special AR glasses, users can place and control an avatar in any physical space.

A new world of virtual interaction

The ORS Group has developed an initial prototype to use the metaverse for content distribution. An avatar of a real news anchor is projected directly into the viewer's living room using augmented reality glasses.

The avatar presents various current news items in a short and concise manner. Viewers can delve deeper into the reports by selecting them in the application and receive further background information from the digital news anchor.

Using special software, a digital 3D model of a person is created. The avatar is transferred locally or from the cloud in real time to an app or AR glasses.

From the TV studio to the metaverse

ORS is currently researching the implementation of avatars for TV production. To bring an avatar to life, several steps are necessary:

  1. A 360-degree image of the person is taken and scanned using an app
  2. A voice recording of the person is made
  3. A digital 3D model of the person is created and, if necessary, edited
  4. Using software, an avatar is generated from the 3D model
  5. The voice recording is combined with the avatar
  6. The avatar is transferred locally or from the cloud in real time to the app or AR glasses
  7. The avatar appears embedded in the real environment and interacts with the viewer

Part of the Metaverse Standards Forum

ORS is a member of the Metaverse Standards Forum, a common digital platform that unites real, augmented reality, virtual reality and the spatial web (Web 3.0). User-friendly applications require the integration of various established and new technologies.

To ensure this, the Metaverse Standards Forum was launched in June 2022. In a very short time, over 1,100 companies have joined, including industry giants such as Google, Meta, Microsoft and Nvidia as well as numerous start-ups and SMEs. As a member of the forum, the ORS Group is also committed to the development of a uniform standard.
