From cloud, metadata and CDN
Our multifaceted competences for Content via IP
With its Content via IP offer, ORS combines its know-how from the worlds of broadcasting and online and offers tailor-made solutions in the field of IP distribution as well as IP services for programme providers and content platforms.
ORS supports media providers both in content distribution via cloud, via content delivery network (CDN) or via ors.net (ORS' high-performance data network), and in the generation of metadata for recommendation engines. To this end, current media trends in relation to the distribution and consumption of multimedia content are researched and constantly developed.
ORS Services - via Cloud
Cloud - The future of video streaming
Together with its partners, ORS has many years of expertise in Amazon Web Services. In addition, ORS offers the use of its server infrastructure for media services (on premise use) as follows:
- White-label solutions for video portals in the cloud: preparation and distribution of video signals for apps and end devices of our partners.
- Development of streaming apps for content platforms in the cloud, as well as user interface customisation according to customer requirements
- Integration of streaming functions via the cloud, such as timeshift, restart and Net-PVR (cloud video recorder)
- Implementation of AI applications via the cloud: e.g. "Speech to text" for the automatic generation of subtitles for video streams
ORS Services - via Content-Delivery-Network
Our high-performance network (CDN) for data transmissions
- ORS provides encoding and packaging of audio and video data and distributes it via its own high performance network (CDN) in IP format.
- Content can be received and streamed seamlessly through our CDN, ensuring perfect quality even during high levels of simultaneous access.
- The core services of the CDN include encoding, processing and delivery of video content as well as maximum availability (99.95%) throughout Austria.
- All live streams of the ORF ON and ORF SOUND, among others, are played via the ORS CDN.
ORS Services - via ORS.net
State-of-the-art content distribution for all of Europe
ORS.net is ORS' high-performance data network for the distribution of audio, video and IP data throughout Europe. The network consists of media routers, which are interconnected via radio links or data lines and thus provide a highly redundant data network.
It was implemented and further expanded in 2013. Today, ORS.net is responsible for the distribution of all audio, video and IP data of the ORS Group.
Connection to the Internet hub InterXion Vienna
- In order to enable national and international customers to deliver signals to ORS at an easily accessible point, the Internet hub InterXion Vienna was integrated into ORS.net.
- With this extension, signals from broadcasters can be picked up or delivered quickly and cost-effectively without having to set up dedicated data lines.
- In the first step, the signal feed of the ORF HD programmes of the cable mux for SKY was implemented. Others are in the planning stage.
ORS Services - Metadata & Recommendations
For a clear view in the "content jungle" - our recommendation systems for platform operators
Programme providers and streaming platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo or simpliTV streaming offer a vast amount of video content. In order for streaming users to find their way through the content jungle, the rich offer of such a video platform must be attractively presented.
Automated recommendation technologies - recommendation systems, or "recommendation engines" - help with this. These filter information on the basis of the preferences of the respective users and play out the content individually tailored to them.
Best Practice: Metadata for simpliTV Streaming
ORS optimised all metadata on the simpliTV streaming platform to guarantee an even better streaming experience.
If a user likes a specific series, for example, it is possible to find and enjoy similar programmes more easily via metadata. For example, if you click on the director of a programme, all available films and video assets are displayed to the user.
This eliminates the so-called "zapping" until one has found an interesting programme.
